Hide from Selected Friends in Facebook Chat

Millions of people are using Facebook to stay in touch with friend and family and share interesting stuff. Facebook Chat is another craze, people love chatting in Facebook but it gets complicated if you have a large list of friends who are online at chat.

Here is an easy way to filter your Facebook chat list and hide from selected (sometimes annoying) people. Other instant messengers do not have such features. So follow these steps to appear offline to selected friends on Facebook.

• Login to your Facebook account, click the Friends link at the sidebar

• This will open ‘Find Friends‘, Click ‘Edit Friends‘ button on the screen

• On next page, click on ‘Create a List’, Enter the name of list (such as ‘ignore list‘)

• You can do other way around if you like, create a ‘online list‘ so you can switch it on to chat with these specific friends. So ‘ignore list‘ is a good idea if you have more friends and want to ignore a few.
• When the list is made, select the friends whom you want to appear offline by checking the profile thumbnails. After you are done, click the create list link.
• Now click the Facebook Chat link at bottom of screen, you will see a new list as below. When you want to appear offline to selected friends, click the ‘Chat Visibility’ button next to the ‘ignore list’ friend list created earlier. Clicking this button will change your status too offline for friends in this list. The color will change from green to grey for this list.

• These friends will not be able to send you message or see that you are currently on facebook and will get the message “Your chat message wasn’t sent because Mr. X is offline. (Send as a message)” every time they try to send you the message.

This is very easy way to filter the friends that bother your when you are on Facebook chat so that you can chat with your important contacts. You can appear offline or online with this list anytime you want.
