How to maintain your system properly?

If not properly and regularly maintained, the performance of all Windows 7 systems tend to degrade with the passage of time. For a good run of window 7, you can also increase performance of your computer yourself through maintenance by regularly cleaning registry, disk cleanup, defragment disk and check for disk errors.
Some of the tips which will help you maintain your system properly are:
1.      Clean computer registry, but first backup the registry using the cleaner program. Regularly use a free software like Ccleaner, registry cleaner to increase window’s performance. Maybe you might have uninstalled an software without using the Add or Remove Programs function located in the Control Panel, or perhaps a file or an object in the registry got moved. Eventually, this incorrectly positioned information gradually gathers and starts to clog your registry, potentially slowing down your PC and causing error messages and sometimes system crashes too.

2.   Perform a disk clean up. Click start in the bottom left corner, then click run. Type, “cleanmgr.exe” in the text field. Press “okay”. This can take a while if you have never done it before.

3. Check for disk errors. Over time, your hard disk develops bad sectors. Bad sectors slow down hard disk performance and sometimes make data writing difficult or even impossible. To detect and repair disk errors, Windows has a built-in tool called the Error Checking utility. It’ll search the hard disk for bad sectors and system errors and repair them for faster performance.
To detect and repair disk errors:
1. Click the Start button and click Computer.
2. Right click the hard disk you want to scan and click Properties.
3. Click the Tools tab.
4. Click Check Now.
5. Select the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box and click Start.

6. Repeat steps 1-5 for all drives.

4. Defragment Your Computer. If this is your first defrag, do it after the disk clean up twice, then a disk defrag, and then another When your hard drive becomes fragmented, it is literally wasting time by looking in all kinds of places on the disk for all the pieces of one file. Defragmenting your drive is a great solution to speed up your computer as it puts all the files together in order. Click the Start button, type Defrag, and click Disk Defragmenter. Click the drives you want to defragment and click Analyze. Click Defragment. It is suggested to defrag your hard drive weekly. For the best results, run defragmenter last after performing all other steps and do not use your computer while defragmenter is running.
